Who Loves Cake?
Usually, an event that requires a planner will include a cake! When it is an event we are organizing for one of our own family or friends, I generally will be asked to make a cake. This actually grew out of a love for baking, but more specifically, out of a closure of our old favorite bakery in Lincolnton, NC, Ole King Cole. Do any of you remember that place? His cakes were SO GOOD!!!
We were so sad when they first initially had a fire, then we found out that the bakery owner was in poor health and would not re-open. This began my journey of trying to recreate that taste! Our family favorite is a nice. dense, slightly almond flavored white pound cake. And while the cake is important, the frosting is super important;) I played around for years looking for a recipe that tasted almost the same as his did. I ended up with something that we feel is pretty darn close- a rich, white buttercream (not too sugary, but still sweet)!
With experimentation and my own kids birthdays, word leaked out to our extended family and church family ... RUTH MAKES CAKES. The thing is, I can't make them for a business, even though I wish I could. I have two little Jack Russell Terriers that take up residence in my home, and they are a permanent fixture for my family, eliminating my other dream of running a bakery out of my house!
So for now, you can see pictures of the cakes I make and supply for our own personal events. We have a wedding reception tonight for two adorable, and much loved sweethearts. This had me in the kitchen for a couple hours, and here is the result! Hope you enjoy the picture :) Wish you could have a bite!

Why Do It Yourself???
I've personally attended events where there was a hired event planner vs. the family running around trying to manage the event themselves. While you will definitely save money to do it yourself, you also lose the ability to enjoy the day and be in the moment. You'll need to outweigh the benefits of hiring a planner, to the benefit of saving money.
One particular event I remember attending without a planner, resulted in chaos over the seating for the meal, and setting up for the meal prior to the event. No one was designated to do this and bridesmaids and family friends were running around trying to learn how to fold napkins in an elegant manner, and deciding who should sit where. When the event day arrives, it is so nice for the family to be able to sit back, relax, and know that the event details will be handled by a planner so that they can enjoy the day. Events can be stressful enough, with all of the preparation and expectations, so why not hire someone to greatly reduce the stress of the day for you?
Most times, it seems that people do invest in a planner, and the event runs smoothly. While you will have the added expense, it is greatly offset by the reduction of stress and chaos. You will be more comfortable, as will your guests. Our company specializes in smaller events so that great attention to detail can be given to you, as well as not allowing your smaller event to pale in importance to a planner's bigger commitments. You are important to us and we want to make your event the very best that it can be! Below are some pictures from the wedding of one of our creative specialists! It was a beautiful day!
